If you are using windows media player for listening songs then you might wonder how to minimize the player to system like winamp, itunes, or any other player.

One way is to add “Windows Media Player” as a toolbar like this. Right Click taskbar -> Properties -> Toolbar.

Even with this work around still the taskbar is not utilized fully. I don’t know why Microsoft doesn’t think about this simple option. Wondering whether there are any copyright issues. I always wanted Microsoft windows to provide multiple workspace option so that one can switch between each workspace. In this way the taskbar can be used most effectively. “Group Similar Windows” is something that is not good for users who open mutiple windows!!!

Finally I found this plugin. You can download the plugin here WMPTray Plugin1.0.

This plugin is available only in Portuguese. Not worries there is no issues as nothing needs to be know to use this. Once you download you need to copy the WMPTray.dll file to “C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Plugins” or which ever drive you have installed you OS.

INSTALLATION:

1) If Windows Media Player is open, close it;

2) Copy the file WMPTray.dll to the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Plugins\;

3) Click Start> Command Prompt;
Note: In Vista, You must right click over command prompt and choose “run as administrator”

4) Enter: regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Plugins\WMPTray.dll” and press Enter.

5) Open Windows Media Player, click Tools> Plug-ins and check the option WMPTray Plugin.

There you have it.

IE8′s pathetic bug. In IE8 new tabs doesn’t remember last saved path. My OS is Vista Ultimate but I don’t think this bug has any relevance with Operating System.

Steps to replicate this bug

1. Open new IE window and do a google image search for any keyword like “flower images”

2. Copy the url in the current tab.

3. Create  new tab and paste the URL and hit Enter. Follow Step3 for 4-5 cycles.

4. Now try to save an image to desktop from each tab one by one. Not all the tabs seems to remember the last saved path!!!

I haven’t found any solution for this bug. Will update in this post once there is one. So kindly subscribe to the rss feeds from raptor.in.

I wanted smilies pack for phpbb3 Forum. I got it from Kolobok and installed it on my forum http://forum.raptor.in . Kolobok forum offers good support.

One drawback in this website is their web page language. Default is Russian and English version is also available but is it working too well on all the pages. Use google translator when there is a trouble.

Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK) is a freeware.  It Simplifies the DVD to AVI/DivX/XviD conversion process for people new. It also supports other MPEG2 sources, such as HDTV, DVB captures and transport streams.

An icon be square in size, and at least 16 x 16 pixels. Consider creating both a 16 x 16-pixel icon as well as a 32 x 32-pixel icon (and larger, bandwidth permitting), since on high-DPI displays, Browser may stretch the icon to fit the available space.

To create the icon, use an icon editor, I used IcoFX which is a freeware. Visit http://www.icofx.ro to download. One of the main feature of this software is that it can Convert Macintosh icons to Windows icons. Try spending time and get used to basic stuffs. Once done open the jpg format of you logo and save it as icon [ .ico file format (convert - jpg2ico)].

The filename should be “favicon.ico”

4. Download and Install CCcleaner(Freeware) – http://www.ccleaner.com/

5. Analyze and Run Cleaner under Cleaner tab

6. Scan for issues and Fix Selected issues under registry tab. (save the registry backup just for safety. cccleaner is awesome don’t have to worry though)

7. Restart your system.

8. Do steps 5,6,7 (Until you find not issues under Registry tab)

9. You are done.

10. Now install powerdvd. It will work.

The word on the blogosphere is that Windows 7 should be released to manufacturing in October 2009 with general availability by November. Blogger Long Zheng has come to this release-date conclusion and says that he’s been given the nod by an unnamed source at Microsoft who validated his guess. Zheng sites two sources for his guess. Today the WinHEC 2008 site boldly says that Windows 7 will be released before the next annual WinHEC. (“WinHEC is the only chance for you to engage with the team at this level – there is not another WinHEC planned before Windows 7 is released,” it says). Also ASUS CEO Jerry Shen said in an interview with Laptop magazine that Eee PCs should be running Windows 7 by the second half of next year.

Actually, there is nothing in these statements that indicates that Windows 7 will be released to manufacturing as late in the year as October. From these statements alone it could be out earlier, like late summer. In any case, Microsoft will certainly be more forthcoming with its release plans soon. In fact, by the time we usher in 2009, we could be singing some new words to the traditional New Year’s tune Auld Lang Syne that goes something like this.

In vista,  copy the ttf  font (whether they are .ttf or opentype files!) and paste it on the your Desktop. You will be able to open and install them without any issues at all. If problem persists try pasting in C: drive (OS Installed Drive) it should work.
