Today I faced a weird issue with the Magic Trackpad, which was already paired with Apple M1 Pro laptop, stopped working. I tried to reconnect but it failed. I tried to “Forget This Device” and and re-pair the device but it failed. I restarted my machine and tried again but that didn’t work either. So I searched the web and didn’t find a solution in stackoverflow or stackexchange but I found something in apple community and reddit.
Fix that worked
Basically we need to re-pair the accessory but slightly differently. Usually, in order to pair a Bluetooth device we press the power button for five seconds and once it is discovered by Mac we hit “Connect” button in laptop and wait for it work. But in this case we need to keep pressing the power button for longer time and keep on pressing until the device is discoverable and the pairing is complete. Don’t take off your hand after five seconds like we usually do. Not sure if this is called “force” re-pair or or something else but this worked.
- Go to Settings -> Bluetooth -> Click info icon (of the device that has the issue)
- “Forget this device” in your Mac
- Keep pressing the power until the device is discoverable
- Continue pressing the power button and hit “connect” in your Mac
- Continue pressing the power button until pairing completes
Keep pressing the power button longer and keep on pressing it until the device is discoverable and the pairing is complete. Don’t take off your hand after five seconds like you usually do.
